Detectives last night released a picture of a man they want to quiz after a woman was found murdered at a Bradford house.

The body of the woman whom police believe is Ridda Zanab, 21, was found when officers were called to Alford Terrace, Lidget Green, early yesterday.

Police named the man they are hunting as Danish Irfan, 21, and warned that he might be trying to flee the country.

They urged members of the public not to approach him but to ring 999 immediately.

Irfan, 21, is described as Asian, about 5ft 10ins tall, and slim. His hair is now shorter than in the picture and his sideburns are more pointed.

Detective Superintendent Mark Ridley, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who believes they may have seen Mr Irfan or who has information about his whereabouts. Similarly, if Mr Irfan sees or hears this appeal himself, I would ask that he makes contact with us.

“At this time it is believed that he could be anywhere in the UK and may be trying to leave the country. Members of the public are urged not to approach Mr Irfan but to call police immediately if they think they have seen him.”

Police were called to Alford Terrace at 3.25am yesterday after they received a call from someone concerned about Miss Zanab’s welfare.

Forensic officers spent several hours yesterday carrying out a meticulous examination of the neat, terraced house, where her body was found.

The front and rear of the house were cordoned off with blue and white police tape and officers were on guard.

A post-mortem examination was last night being carried out to determine the cause of Miss Zanab’s death.

Shocked neighbours in the quiet cul de sac told yesterday of noise and comings and goings at the rented property.

Next-door-neighbour Faisal Hussain said he was woken at about 4am and looked out to see police outside.

Mr Hussain, 24, said: “I heard noises and thought someone might have broken in. I could hear voices and screaming. I looked out and I saw four or five police officers going in and out of the house. I thought it must be some sort of drugs raid.

“It is a rented property next door and the tenants keep changing. I have had a lot of problems with noise while I am sleeping, but since this lady moved in three or four months ago I have had no trouble.

“I have seen her leaving the house in a morning. I don’t know where she was going, probably to work somewhere. I have never spoken to her. She was quite tall and slim and wore traditional Asian clothing.”

Mr Hussain added: “It’s a shock when something of this nature happens next door.”

Another woman neighbour said that three women and a man – all Asian and in their mid 20s – lived at the property, a redbrick and white-painted stone fronted house with a small neat garden at the front.

She said: “My sister-in-law lives on the other side of the house and in the last few months she has been disturbed by loud music and sounds of arguing and even fighting.”

An elderly man living opposite said he had seen a young Asian couple with a baby going in and out of the house. He said: “They seemed very friendly and waved when they saw me.”

Neighbourhood Policing Team officers have been conducting reassurance patrols in the area.

Anyone with information which could assist the murder investigation should call police on 101, or 999 in an emergency. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
