This team of young fundraisers conquered Britain’s second-highest peak in aid of a local mosque’s charity appeal.
The team of young people raised almost £10,000 for the Minarets Project, a charity appeal being run by the Jamia Masjid Naqshbandia Aslamia in Bradford.
Leading the 13-strong expedition was the mosque’s general secretary, Nazim Ali.
He said: “Despite adverse weather conditions with regular rain, strong winds and mist which meant visibility was poor, the Team Minarets successfully completed their goal.
“The weather was so bad that when we got to the summit the café was forced to close and the train was stopped due to the strong winds and weather conditions.
“This highlights the determination and commitment of the group.”
Mr Ali said the young people showed remarkable endurance and stamina on the trek.
He said: “It is an example of what can be done if one strives with dedication and commitment.
“Many of the young people commented that they never thought in their wildest dreams they would ever take on such a challenge.
“Plans are already afoot to have similar initiatives in the future – we have already been inundated with requests by young people in particular who have been inspired by the ‘Team Minarets’ and want to engage in future treks.”
