Calderdale Council will discuss plans to award an army regiment the freedom of the borough tomorrow.
The Honorary Freedom has been exercised by the former Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, later 3rd Batallion Yorkshire Regiment, since 1945.
In 2012 it was announced the three battalions of The Yorkshire Regiment would be merged into two, and that the name and colours of the Duke of Wellington’s battalion would be retired.
The Honorary Freedom would grant the Yorkshire Regiment the right to march through Calderdale on all ceremonial occasions.
