A Bradford drug dealer, who went on the run for seven years, had his sentencing adjourned today after a fresh charge came to light.

Zubair Ahmed Shah, 40, formerly of Hollings Square, Girlington, was arrested in June after arriving back in the UK on a flight from Pakistan. He was wanted on warrant after jumping bail in January 2006.

At an earlier hearing, Shah pleaded guilty to possessing crack cocaine and heroin with intent to supply, in Bradford in July 2004. He had previously admitted unrelated charges of dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice, and the Bail Act offence.

Shah was due to be sentenced today at Bradford Crown Court, but prosecutor Austin Newman said the Crown Prosecution Service had been informed by the police that the defendant had been arrested and charged with supplying heroin, in December 2005, shortly before he absconded.

Judge Robert Bartfield adjourned the case so that all matters could be sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on November 15.

Shah was further remanded in custody.
