A planning inspector will rule whether an extension can be added to a home in Langcliffe.
Mrs P Harding wants retrospective permission for a single-storey rear extension at 5 Main Street, which, she says, would create a practical and sustainable solution to the problems created by an existing enclosed damp external yard.
But the scheme was turned down by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, which said it would be visually harmful to the appearance of the original dwelling.
The decision notice said the extension would detract from the simple character of the house and would neither preserve nor enhance the character or appearance of the village conservation area.
Mrs Harding has now lodged an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate and a decision will be made by an inspector on the basis of written representations.
