Only one sacked Bradford disabled worker has found a job after Government help, ministers have admitted.

The worker was one of the seven staff who were made redundant when the Remploy factory in the city was one of those across England to be axed.

Jerry Watson, GMB national secretary for manufacturing, said: “The vast majority of people who worked in the Remploy centre were not able to easily transfer to other jobs, because of severe learning difficulties, or physical difficulties.

“And those in work are in casual, low-paid employment – and some are in charity shops, where they are not being paid at all.”

But the department for work and pensions insisted many former Remploy workers were on training schemes, while others had “may have retired or taken a sabbatical”.

A spokesman said: “We put in place an £8m package of employment support for ex-Remploy workers.”
