More than 60 nominations have been received for this year’s Gerry Pickersgill Award.

The annual scheme, run by social housing group Incommunities, celebrates people who go the extra mile to support their community and help others.

It is open to any housing association tenant or leaseholder, as well as private rented tenants across the district.

Previous winners have been nominated for helping their elderly neighbours, setting up community groups and organising Neighbourhood Watch schemes.

The award is named after former Keighley area housing manager Mr Pickersgill, a popular figure in the town who died in 2000.

An Incommunities spokesman said: “Sixty-four nominations have been received, which is up on last year. We are very pleased with the response.”

Judging is now taking place and all nominees will be invited to an awards ceremony on November 12 at Octagon Live in Sandbeds.
