A pregnant woman behind bars for setting fire to a house will be sentenced on January 3 following the preparation of psychiatric and probation reports.

Charleen Hall, 26, had to be rescued from the building on Thackeray Road, Ravenscliffe, in the early hours of Friday, October 11.

She was arrested and held in custody and last week pleaded guilty at Bradford Crown Court to arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered. Her denial of the more serious charge of arson with intent to endanger life has been accepted by the Crown.

Today Hall was due to appear at the Crown Court but the prison service did not transport her there.

Richard Davies, for the prosecution, said that her basis of plea to the reckless arson offence was not acceptable.

Hall’s solicitor advocate, Tom Rushbrooke, said it was her case that she lit paper to see because the electricity was turned off and the fire was a reckless accident. She was no longer living there and had called to collect some belongings.

Mr Rushbrooke said he would make a bail application for her tomorrow.
