The Broughton-in-Craven circle of the Catenian Association celebrates its 50th anniversary next month.
The circle was inaugurated on November 26, 1963, and the first meeting was held at the Craiglands Hotel in Ilkley.
Fourteen founding members were enrolled and one of original “brothers” is still alive – Tom Doyle. He was for some years the licensee of the Devonshire Hotel in Grassington.
Membership has now grown to about 30 men and their families from the Craven area.
The circle now meets at the Tempest Arms, Elslack, on the first Thursday of each month.
To celebrate the occasion, the circle will hold a special meeting next Thursday, November 7, with a celebration dinner.
The Catenian Association is an organisation of Catholic men and their families, who enjoy a wide range of social activities.
New members are welcome and for more information contact the membership officer on 07785 244830.
