A courageous stroke survivor has been given an award after getting stuck into volunteering work.
Mick Speed, 69, of Frizley Gardens, Bradford, suffered an asceamic stroke ten years ago. It was a year before he regained use of his left hand and arm, and is left with weakness on one side.
On his discharge from hospital Mr Speed decided to do what he could to help improve stroke services.
This included joining Shipley Stroke Group, where he is now joint chairman, and to volunteer for the Stroke Association, Stroke Research Network and the UK Stroke Forum for Education and Training.
Mr Speed has now has received a Life After Stroke certificate from the Stroke Association in recognition for this work.
