The England Rugby League team has rejected an MP’s call to dump God Save The Queen as their pre-match anthem – insisting they are concentrating on the game.
Leeds North West MP Greg Mulholland argued it was “inappropriate” for England to sing the famous song, because it is the anthem for the whole of the United Kingdom.
The Liberal Democrat MP tabled a parliamentary motion urging England Rugby League to think again, with the crunch opening match against Australia just days away.
