Shipley MP Philip Davies is calling on the Government to tell judges they should hand out sentences they see fit and not be influenced by Europe after a three times killer escaped a whole-life sentence as it would go against his human rights.
He said it was an insult that human rights could be cited in the case of a killer who had taken the lives of three individuals.
Speaking in Business of the House Question time in the House of Commons today he called for action to rebalance the justice system in favour of the victims.
Mr Davies said: “We recently had the intolerable situation where a triple killer who murdered his last victim while he was on the run from prison, has not been given a whole-life tariff by the judge, because the judge said it would breach a European Court of Human Rights ruling.
“We need a debate and vote in this House so that this House can make it clear that we expect judges – where they see fit – to impose whole-life tariffs and ignore the views of the pseudo-sham judges at the European Court of Human Rights.”
Mr Davies has long campaigned for prisoners to serve their sentences in full.
