Otley MP Greg Mulholland said tougher laws are needed to combat laser light attacks on planes, despite the number of incidents at Leeds Bradford Airport falling this year.

The Telegraph & Argus yesterday revealed there have been 20 incidents at the Yeadon Airport reported to the Civil Aviation Authority so far this year, compared with 81 last year and 84 in 2010.

But Mr Mulholland backed the British Airline Pilots Association which is calling for strict regulations on people carrying lasers and for culprits should be jailed for their actions.

The MP tabled an Early Day Motion in 2012 calling for more to be done to prevent laser pen attacks on aircrafts.
