A collapsed culvert at Damems Country Park at Keighley could become a wildlife haven.

The culvert gave way earlier this month, leaving a 50-metre trench running through the parking area and main entrance.

Bradford Council workers made the trench safe, and asked the recently-formed Friends of Damems what they wanted done with it.

Friends spokesman Jo Horrox said: “There were two options – leave it as it was, or fill it with concrete and rubble. Residents would like to see the culvert kept as this would attract more wildlife to the area.”

The Friends are considering publishing a pamphlet about the history of Damems, which lies in the Worth Valley between Oakworth and Ingrow. Shaun O’Hare, from Keighley and Ilkley Voluntary and Community Action, is helping the group devise a constitution.

The group’s next meeting will be on Monday, November 18, at 7pm in Wesley Church, off Halifax Road.
