A school’s senior drama students took advantage of an opportunity to receive expert advice on all aspects of acting.
The year 12 and 13 students at South Craven School, in Cross Hills, near Keighley, enjoyed a three-hour “physical theatre” workshop.
It had been arranged by drama teacher Clare Adley as part of students’ BTECs in acting and A-levels in performance studies.
The pupils were directed by visiting actor Mal Smith, from professional theatre company Splendid Productions.
A school spokesman said: “The students spent the morning in The Fells Theatre. The workshop focussed on two leading physical theatre pioneers - Steven Berkoff and Jerry Grotowski - whose work the students are exploring in lessons.
“In one of the activities, following a demonstration by Mal, the students had to show their reactions in slow motion, as they approached an imaginary situation in front of them.”
BTEC acting student Will Blackie said: “The workshop was really helpful and helped me develop as an actor. It opened my eyes to a different aspect of acting”.
Livvi Sheryn, a performance studies student, said: “It was really fun and extremely useful. We’re looking forward to taking part in another workshop with Mal.”
