Councillors have written to the boss of Yorkshire Water pleading for him to act immediately to repair a “dangerous” hole in the road which they say effects thousands of drivers every day.
The Windhill and Wrose councillors have also had reports of sewage leaking from the hole, which appeared in Carr Lane, Windhill, at the start of August.
The road opened-up at the same spot almost a year ago and Yorkshire Water later repaired it, following discussions with Bradford Council.
Coun Susan Hinchcliffe said private companies had corporate responsibilities which should be taken seriously.
She said: “It took us literally months last year to get Yorkshire Water to sort out the repair and put the road right.
“But then when the same thing happened again this year in the same place we were really quite angry.”
The joint letter to the company’s chief executive Richard Flint, from Labour councillors Vanda Greenwood, Alex Ross-Shaw and Susan Hinchcliffe, says the hole “effects thousands of car drivers using this junction every day and is, quite frankly, dangerous.”
It goes on to ask Mr Flint to make the repair a priority and says: “Unless we see immediate and significant action we will have no choice but to notify Ofwat and the Health and Safety Executive to ask them to investigate.”
Coun Greenwood said: “People are crashing into the barriers on a daily basis, it’s just not safe.”
Coun Ross-Shaw added that Yorkshire Water appeared to be “dragging their heels” on this issue. Coun Hinchcliffe said a Council officer had told her that Yorkshire Water had been digging trial holes on Friday to test whether the sewage was coming from its system.
Yorkshire Water did not respond when asked for comment by the Telegraph & Argus.
