A political party has applied to put up a temporary shelter in Keighley to help activists spread their message.
The UK Independence Party would like to have a gazebo somewhere near Keighley Bus Station or the town hall for several hours on Thursday October 31.
Paul Latham, the UKIP prospective parliamentary candidate for Keighley, said the application to Bradford Council for the gazebo was submitted on October 4 and is still being considered.
“This is just something that would help us have a presence so we can hand out leaflets and speak to people - which is all part of our democracy,” he said.
“We’ve had this gazebo up during the summer at different places in the Yorkshire Dales and we wouldn’t be causing an obstruction. I don’t see why anyone would have an objection. It’s quite new - we haven’t put it up in Keighley town centre before, but I’m hopeful that we should get approval.”
Mr Latham, who lives in Ilkley, works as a business consultant. He stood as a candidate for Keighley & Ilkley constituency in the 2010 general election.
