Teams of hay bale carriers are getting ready to be let loose on the streets of Carleton-in-Craven.
A hay bale carrying competition will be held next Sunday, October 27, to raise money for an annual Christmas party for the village children.
The contest, which starts at noon outside the Swan Inn, on Main Street, will feature teams of four, each carrying a bale of hay around the village in a time trial event. Along the route, there will be four checkpoints where each team will be required to complete additional tasks.
“It’s the first time the village has ever held a hay bale competition,” said Paul Selwood, owner of the Swan, which will put on a barbecue for participants and those watching the event.
Entry costs £5 per person and all the proceeds will go towards an annual children’s Christmas party at the Swan, which is being organised by local residents, Anne and Graham Colledge.
The children’s party will take place on Sunday, December 22, and will include a disco and a free gift from Santa for children.
The party will be followed by a Yuletide event, which will include carol singing outside the pub, roast chestnuts, hot chocolate, mulled wine and a snow machine.
