Proposals to run a taxi firm based at Eccleshill United Football Club until 2am on weekend nights are up for debate by planners next Thursday.

Private hire firm Five Lane Ends taxis is based in a temporary building on the club’s car park at Kingsway, Wrose.

It currently runs a service starting at 8am and ending at midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

At weekdays it must close down by 10.30pm.

The business received permission to set up in January and now wants to start at 6am every morning and run until midnight on weekday nights and 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

But officers are recommending councillors refuse permission for the extended hours due to “significant harm to the amenities of the surrounding residential properties due to general disturbance associated with the use of unsociable and sensitive periods.”

Eccleshill Football Club runs a range of social functions and its chairman John Offless said he supported the taxi firm’s request.

“It’s good for us because it helps get people to and from functions very quickly and easily,” Mr Offless said.

“And the taxi firm is also supportive of us by handing out our flyers for events and things.

“They’re nice, straightforward people, the business is discretely set up and so it works well for us.”

Thirteen letters of support were handed into Bradford Council’s planning department with only one letter of objection.

Wrose Parish Council also wrote in favour of the proposed variation in opening hours.

Opposition to the proposal was based on general problems caused by vehicle movements, radio and on street parking. However, the Council’s own officers concluded in their report that extending the working hours would not result in any significant highway implications and that there is a “reasonably large parking area” which should be large enough to cater for any vehicles in connection with the use.

Alan Busfield, who owns Five Lane End Taxis, said he could not understand the objections. He said: “I just can’t see what the problem is – business is building up very nicely through word of mouth and this is holding us back.”
