Two men have gone on trial at Bradford Crown Court in connection with a £2 million haul from ‘sizeable and sustained’ drug production and distribution sites in the city.

Junaid Khan, 31, of Folkestone Street, Bradford Moor, and Shazad Ahmed Khan, 30, of Japonica Way, Bradford Moor, face two charges of conspiracy to supply class A drugs, heroin and crack cocaine. The charges follow police raids at two Bradford addresses on March 2 and November 10, 2012.

Prosecutor David Dixon QC told the court that in the first raid at Acton House, Little Germany, police found large quantities of both heroin – a quarter of a kilo with an estimated value of £13,500, and cocaine – 28.5g with a value of more than £2,000.

Police also found nearly two kilograms of cutting agent and equipment used to “bash” drugs in the production process, Mr Dixon said.

In the second raid, on a unit in Lessarna Court, Bowling Back Lane, police seized nine kilograms of heroin and a sizeable amount of cash from a binbag near a Volkswagen Golf parked outside the unit.

After breaking into the unit itself, they found 2.7kg of crack cocaine and 30kg of heroin, with an estimated combined value of more than £1.8 million, Mr Dixon told the jury. Police also found various pieces of equipment said to be used for drug production and refinery, and a list of names and phone numbers said to constitute a monthly dealer list, with one month showing an income of £426,000.

He said Junaid Khan was a “trusted member of the team”, whose fingerprints had been found on one of the bags of drugs seized in the first raid, and on the alleged dealer list recovered in the second operation.

Referring to Shazad Khan, Mr Dixon alleged he was “further up the chain of command” in the organisation, responsible for obtaining the lease for the unit at Lessarna Court.

In subsequent raids at the two defendants’ homes, police found large amounts of cash with a greater than normal level of contamination from crack cocaine and heroin.

Mr Dixon said: “This was an organisation that had been in practice for some time, making a substantial quantity of class A drugs...it was a serious organisation making serious money.

The jury has been told that three other men, Sheeraz Khan, 32, of Ploughman’s Croft, Bolton Woods, Saif Almeskry, 21, of Scoresby Street, Little Germany, and Tahir Ali, 27, of Thornton Lane, Little Horton, have all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply drugs.

The trial continues.
