A horse chestnut tree which gave its name to an area of Ben Rhydding was felled as it was in a dangerous condition, says Bradford Council.
Residents and a ward councillor asked why the tree on Wheatley Lane, which gave the area the name Conker Hill, had been felled. But Council officers said it was in decline and in an increasingly dangerous condition.
Officers told Coun Anne Hawkesworth (Ind, Ilkley) they had attended three breakages in the last two years and the most recent had closed the road for a number of hours.
Coun Hawkesworth asked if there would be a replacement tree.
