Bradford businessman Nirmal Singh has been appointed chairman of the Yorkshire Sikh Forum for the third time.
Mr Singh said he was “honoured” to take the voluntary position, which involves networking with figures such as the local MPs and police, and other faith groups, to help bring communitites together.
He said: “I promise to work very hard.”
Mr Singh said last week he visited the House of Lords, where he met Communities Secretary Eric Pickles and the crossbench peer Lord Indarjit Singh, one of Britain’s most prominent Sikhs.
He said that they had “discussed many issues about Yorkshire”.
