A travelling circus has thanked its supporters in Queensbury by naming a new baby llama after the Bradford village.

Peter Jolly’s circus were forced to postpone shows in the area last week due to bad weather, but say they have now re-scheduled after a huge response from locals.

While on-site, a baby llama has been born and the owners have decided to name him ‘The Marquess of Queensbury’ as a tribute.

A spokesman for the circus said: “The phone hasn’t stopped ringing asking when we would start performing, and this is our small gesture of thanks.”

Shows will now take place from today until Sunday at 6.30pm, with matinee shows from 2.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.

The circus, one of only two in the UK that still uses animals such as lions and tigers, has sparked complaints from animal welfare charities and the RSPCA.
