A drink-driver in a stolen car struck and injured another motorist as he inspected the damage from an earlier collision, a court heard today.

Bradford Crown Court was told Thomas Blakey, 20, was in a Mercedes-Benz car which had been stolen in a burglary the previous day, when he drove into the back of a Renault Clio in Sunbridge Road, Bradford.

The Clio was pushed into the back of a Vauxhall Corsa.

Prosecutor Shamaila Qureshi said Blakey got back in the car and drove it, but hit the Clio again.

Miss Qureshi said the driver of the Corsa, Darren White, was still standing by his car inspecting the damage when the Clio hit him. He sustained bruising to his legs.

Blakey then managed to drive round the two cars, but hit a metal bench and then ran off.

He was identified from CCTV and breath tests at the police station found him to be one and a half times over the legal drink-drive limit.

Miss Qureshi said the incident took place one day after Blakey was given a conditional discharge for an offence of public nuisance when he climbed on to the roof of a building, threatened to jump off, and stayed there for 19 hours before coming down.

Blakey, of Norman Lane, Eccleshill, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking on September 6 this year.

He also admitted driving over the prescribed limit and without insurance or a licence.

In mitigation, his barrister, Helen Chapman, said her client had needs that needed addressing, including mental health problems and drugs issues.

He had been in custody since his arrest, pleaded guilty at an early stage and shown genuine remorse at the scene.

Judge Peter Benson sentenced Blakey to six months custody suspended for two years, with supervision and a Drugs Rehabilitation Requirement.

He was also banned from driving for 18 months.
