A judge has threatened to issue a warrant if a GP practice fails to provide medical notes in the case of a man accused of murdering his grandmother.

Nathaniel Flynn, 26, appeared at Bradford Crown Court today via a video link from Wakefield Prison for a case management hearing.

Flynn is charged with the murder of his grandmother, Louisa Denby, 84, who was found dead from multiple stab wounds at her home in Prospect Mount, Windhill, Shipley, on July 1 this year.

He is also accused of the attempted murder of a nine-year-old boy, who cannot be identified, and two other charges of assault. No charges were put and no pleas taken at today’s 20-minute hearing.

The Recorder of Bradford, Judge Roger Thomas QC, was told by Flynn’s barrister, James Hill QC, that defence lawyers had had no success in getting their client’s medical records from his GP practice.

Mr Hill said: “The particular doctor and surgery may be labouring under the misapprehension of how serious this is.”

Prosecutor Adrian Waterman QC said: “Whatever reason the GP has - he may have an ulterior good reason - he needs to understand he has no option but to deliver up his notes.”

Judge Thomas said he would make sure the court office followed up the matter and a warrant would be issued if the notes were not provided by Wednesday.

Flynn was further remanded in custody. The next hearing will be on November 15. A trial date has been fixed for December 2.
