A disabled sports organisation in Bradford needs more volunteer drivers and escorts to help with the work it does across the district.

Bradford Disability Sport and Leisure (BDSL) runs three fully-adapted minibuses under the umbrella of ‘community transport’.

Sue Brook, BDSL’s transport manager, said: “We are short of drivers and escorts. This is mainly due to the success of volunteers who have now gained employment because of the training and development they have received when working for us.”

Volunteer drivers will be given full training and all volunteers receive out-of-pocket expenses.

A volunteer driver with BDSL said: “When I first came to volunteer as a driver I was not sure what to expect. After a few months I have found the work so rewarding and I know I make a difference as far as the elderly and disabled users are concerned.” A volunteer escort added: “Without our transport our customers would be isolated.”

Both volunteers have been giving their time to BDSL for two years.
