A baker’s dozen of potholes coupled with tall weeds have turned Baildon Library’s car park into a dangerous disgrace, says a Bradford councillor.
Summing up complaints from local residents, Baildon ward councillor Roger L’Amie said there were three areas of concern about the 13 holes and crumbling tarmac behind the Ian Clough Hall.
“I am very concerned about one the worst potholes which is adjacent to a disabled bay,” said Coun L’Amie (Baildon, Con) pointing out a two-inch deep crater.
“It is dangerous because if a disabled person got out of their car and stepped in that hole it could lead to a stumble and a serious injury.”
The other disabled bay used by visitors to the popular library also has holes beside it.
“The car park is covered with at least thirteen considerable potholes and is ringed by high weeds – it really is in a disgraceful state,” Coun L’Amie said And he stressed urgent work was needed to save money on inevitable future costs.
“Imagine if nothing is done before the winter?” he said. “It’s in such a poor state that unless prompt action is taken, by Easter it will need very expensive repairs.
“As an active ward councillor, I really do feel the current Labour executive on Bradford Council needs to get its priorities right and do more for places like Baildon where people contribute to the overall cost of the district and often end up feeling let down.”
A spokesman for Bradford Council’s car parks maintenance team said they would tackle any dangerous holes as quickly as possible. He said: “We are looking into the issues being reported at this location and if any could pose a risk or present access issues for people with disabilities we seek to rectify these at the earliest opportunity.”
