A ward councillor is calling for older issues raised by objectors to be considered once more when Tesco’s latest bid to build a new Ilkley store goes before a Bradford Council committee.
Councillor Martin Smith (Con, Ilkley) says market and trading styles have changed since a Government planning inspector granted planning permission for the store on appeal in 2010.
And he says the land earmarked for the new supermarket, off Railway Road and Mayfield Road, would be better developed as affordable homes and car parking.
Tesco’s application to renew planning permission for the new store – as well as for the redevelopment of the site of the existing store on Springs Lane – will go before Bradford Councils Regulatory and Appeals Committee next Thursday.
