A Bradford man has appeared in court charged with assisting police killer Dale Cregan and others while they were on the run.

Raj Mohammed Khan, 41, of Clifford Close, Bolton, Bradford, and Patricia Kelly, 55, of St Kilders Avenue, Droylsden, Greater Manchester, were charged with conspiracy to assist an offender.

They appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court for a brief hearing on Saturday and were remanded in custody.

A third person, Marvin Herbert, 41, who was born in Liverpool and has lived in London, was arrested in the Costa del Sol area of Spain and extradited to the UK on Thursday.

He was charged with assisting an offender at Manchester City Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and remanded in custody.

All three defendants will appear at Manchester Crown Court on October 18.

The charges relate to the period between August 10 and September 17 last year when Cregan, Anthony Wilkinson and Jermaine Ward were wanted by police.

One-eyed gangster Cregan was given a whole-life sentence earlier this year for the ruthless murders of two unarmed policewomen.

Cregan, 30, acted with “pre-meditated savagery” in luring PCs Nicola Hughes, 23, and Fiona Bone, 32, to their deaths in a horrifying gun and grenade attack.

He went on the run days before he killed David Short, 46, last August after he gunned down his son, Mark, 23, in a pub in Droylsden three months earlier.

The manhunt reached a conclusion on September 18 when he lured the constables with a bogus 999 call to a house in Abbey Gardens in Hattersley.

His last comment to the call handler as he was told officers were on the way was: “I’ll be waiting.”

He opened the front door as they walked up the front garden path and shot them in the chest with a Glock handgun. PC Hughes was hit eight times, including three strikes to the head as she lay on the ground.

Pc Bone was hit up to eight times after she managed to draw and fire her Taser at Cregan, who fired 32 bullets in total in barely half a minute.

He then left his ‘calling card’ of a military grenade, which he threw on the path where the officers lay, before he calmly handed himself in at a near-by police station.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed: “On Friday, Raj Mohammed Khan of Clifford Close, Bradford, and Patricia Kelly of St Kilders Avenue, Droylsden, were charged with conspiracy to assist an offender.”
