Rafa, Barack and and Kevin – they may not be typical royal names, but bookies were offering odds on the outside chance of the newly-born future monarch being christened one of them.
However, Yeadon royalist Judith Watkinson thinks the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will most likely stick with tradition and that the future king’s name will include those of his grandfather and great-grandfather, Charles and Philip.
As it was revealed that the Duchess of Cambridge had given birth to a baby boy weighing 8lb 6oz at 4.24pm yesterday, Mrs Watkinson said: “It is wonderful, absolutely fantastic.
“It did not matter what it was – boy or girl – I was not bothered either way.”
Mrs Watkinson said she would be raising a glass of cranberry juice to the new arrival, but would not take a stab at what the boy’s first name might end up being.
She said: “It is going to have to be a traditional one because he will be heir to the throne eventually. I don’t think they will deviate from a traditional name.
Bradford bookies said interest in the baby’s name had been low with only a handful of enquiries in the city centre.
Mrs Watkinson kept an eye on rolling news channels at her flat in Marshall Street which is home to her collection of more than 6,000 royal souvenirs. She said she would make room for something else to mark the latest Royal.
