A Keighley campaigner has witnessed first-hand the turmoil in Turkey.
Paveen Yaqub – who was on a ship bound for Gaza in 2010 when Israeli soldiers attacked it and killed nine Turkish activists – was in Turkey to help commemorate the victims of the assault, but found herself in Istanbul at the same time as a series of protests erupted.
The demonstrations began due to opposition to plans to build on a popular Istanbul park, but quickly spread and escalated into violent confrontations between some protestors and the police.
