Young people across West Yorkshire have begun using swipe cards on buses and trains.
The ‘smart-enabled’ versions of Metro Young Person’s PhotoCard, which provides 11 to 16-year-olds with half-fare travel, became available yesterday and will replace the paper versions over time.
All first-time applications are free and Metro is currently offering all replacements free of charge. All applications made during this period will be entered into a prize draw to win an iPad.
Metro chairman Councillor James Lewis said: “For more than two years, over 300,000 West Yorkshire Concessionary Card holders have been using their smart-enabled cards to swipe onto buses and now we are extending the use of these smartcards to young people, who will soon be able to load their cards with ticket products.”
Applications can be made online at wymetro.com.
