A man armed himself with an axe and a pool cue and attacked another man who he accused of stalking his sister.
Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday that Waseem Akhtar claimed that the complainant, Mubasher Matloob, had ignored previous warnings.
There was a row, during which Akhtar punched Mr Matloob. He returned to the scene with the weapons, to scare Mr Matloob, but accepted striking him with the pool cue.
Mr Matloob suffered a superficial cut to his head.
A second man, Ibrahim Zahoor, accompanied Akhtar when he returned, and joined in the fight at a lesser level. Akhtar’s sister, Tazeem Akhtar, a single mother, shouted encouragement.
The court heard that Zahoor had not been aware that weapons were going to be present and did not use them himself.
Waseem Akhtar, 26, of Spring Hall Gardens, Halifax, and Zahoor, 25, of Gladstone Street, Bradford Moor, both pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm.
Akhtar was given a six-month prison sentence suspended for two years. Both men received 12-month community orders with a medium activity and 100 hours unpaid work. Akhtar will have to undergo supervision.
Tazeem Akhtar, 35, of Lapage Street, Bradford Moor, admitted a public order offence and was given a 12-month conditional discharge.
