Firefighters last night rescued an 18-year-old girl who was stuck in a tree for two hours after climbing it to retrieve a toy helicopter.
Crews from Bradford Fire Station were called to Bowling Park at 10.45pm by one of the girl's friends after she had become “frozen with fear” trying to climb back down.
Watch Commander, Richard Lightowler, said: “She had been trying to fetch a toy helicopter at the top of the tree and then froze with fear about halfway down.
“We used our ladders and one of our firefighters brought her down.
“I think she had been trying to build up her courage to climb down, but she’d been up there a couple of hours when one of her friends called us.
“We even managed to get the helicopter down in one piece - we used equipment we have for water rescues to free it from the branches and one of our firefighters caught it!
“Everything turned out fine.”
