A new scheme to assist Keighley’s elderly and disabled residents with DIY and gardening is proving a big hit.
Helping Hands began work earlier this spring, after Keighley Volunteers Centre applied for funding from the National Lottery.
The initiative has now received a second van, enabling its eight volunteers to respond to even more calls.
Projects co-ordinator Gary Hodgson said they had already done about 100 jobs and were now equipped for activities such as electrical work, plumbing, joinery, gardening, decorating and moving furniture.
He added: “It’s a free service – all people would pay for would be parts and materials. Anyone wanting to know more about it can call us on (01535) 609506.”
The project is distinct from a scheme in Bradford also called Helping Hands.
