A couple have raised almost £9,000 for charity over the past five years by opening up their garden on the edge of Ilkley Moor.
Phil and Lyn Short, of Hill Top, Westwood Drive, welcomed 280 visitors to their garden (above) last Wednesday and on Sunday as part of the National Gardens Scheme Open Days.
This year the Shorts raised more than £1,600 for NGS charities, including Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Help for Hospices, as well as the local Breast Cancer Research Action Group.
However, the couple may take a break in 2014. Mrs Short said: “It does take a tremendous amount of work, not only year-long in the garden, but also with all the other event arrangements to make a successful open day, and we felt that we might take a break next year, with a view to a possible return in 2015.”
