Sport at a Baildon school is getting a major boost by taking a new leaf from an old latin book.

The PE and games department at Titus Salt School is re-branding itself this summer under the name Ludus, latin for play, games, sport or training.

Games master James Russell said: “The idea is to raise the profile of sport even higher and really encourage all of our pupils to get involved with something. Over the last couple of years we’ve had a lot of success and now we’ve really started pushing on with lots of different activities,” he said. “For example, we’re now offering archery, fencing, climbing, handball, kayaking and rowing - really trying to give something for everyone.”

Mr Russell said some youngsters may be put off sports such as football, netball, rugby or cricket because they can be dominated by skilled players.
