A seven-year-old Riddlesden boy willing to sacrifice his curly locks for a good cause has raised more than £1,000 for the group that helped his mum overcome cancer.
Archie Clark saw how much the Keighley and Airedale Cancer Support group can help families when his mum Debra, 30, underwent chemotherapy to fight her breast cancer in 2011.
After seeing her lose her hair, he wanted to do his part for both those fighting cancer and the support group so important to the family.
The St Mary’s Primary School pupil decided he would cut his long locks, which he has grown since he was a toddler, and ask friends and family to sponsor him. The money will go to the group, while his hair will be sent to Little Princess – a charity that creates wigs from real hair.
Now recovering from cancer, Debra is a regular at the group, which meets weekly at Keighley Civic Centre. It was at their regular Thursday meeting that Archie had his close shave in full view of grateful members.
