A gangster drama filmed in parts of Bradford will premiere at Edinburgh Film Festival before its broadcast on BBC2 this autumn.
Peaky Blinders, a six-part series starring Cillian Murphy, Sam Neill and Helen McCrory, is set in 1919 in the ‘lawless slum’ neighbourhoods of post-war Birmingham where returning soldiers, Communist revolutionaries and criminal gangs all fight for survival. The drama centres on the Shelby family, whose gang is known as the Peaky Blinders, so-called because they sew razor blades into the peaks of their caps.
Hollywood actor Neill plays a police chief arriving from Belfast to clean up the city. The big budget production was the first project to receive financial investment from Screen Yorkshire's new Yorkshire Content Fund. The first two episodes of the series will be shown on the big screen at Cineworld in Edinburgh on June 26.
