Construction student Thomas Woods, who caught the 3am train from London every week to complete his studies at Bradford College, scooped an ‘overcoming adversity’ prize at the colege’s higher education awards.
Thomas caught the early train through the academic year after being transferred to London by his employer He said: “It was quite a struggle. By the time I got to college I was exhausted, but it has been worth it. I’d definitely do it all over again.”
Since graduating, Thomas has secured himself a position as a quantity surveyor for Balfour Beatty.
Other awards presented by college principal and chief executive Michele Sutton (pictured), included the International Centre Prize for commitment to Sophia Daniel, who came from Barbados to study public services management after hearing about the course’s reputation.
