Keighley businessman Colin Appleyard has been to the Palace to collect his MBE.
And as he received the accolade from the Queen, he told her the last time he’d seen her was 70 years earlier.
Mr Appleyard was a flag-waving schoolboy when she and Princess Margaret visited Guiseley in 1943.
He was accompanied to the Buckingham Palace New Year Honours List ceremony by his wife Peggy and family members.
“It was a truly memorable occasion and one that will stay with me for the rest of my life,” said Mr Appleyard.
