Wharfedale brewers are backing a campaign to secure a “fairer deal” for pubs.
Otley-based Briscoe Brewery and Ilkley Brewery have joined 11 other small breweries across the country in expressing support for Fair Deal for Your Local.
The initiative, driven by a coalition of ten organisations including the Campaign For Real Ale, wants regulations to be introduced to ensure large pub companies cannot overcharge licensees.
Ilkley Brewery’s sales director Richard Shelton said: “The current gulf between the free trade and the model imposed on a high proportion of lessees by the large pubcos is not sustainable for this industry.
Dr Paul Briscoe, owner of Briscoe’s, said the status quo meant small breweries were often prevented from selling direct to local pubs.
The campaign is being co-ordinated by Otley Lib Dem MP Greg Mulholland.
