A Danish band specialising in uptempo dance music – including polkas, jigs, reels and hopsas – will play at Otley Courthouse.
"We started Habadekuk a few years back, because we thought Denmark needed a big, new, party band. The original idea was toblow some wild folk music into people's heads,” says Kristian Bugge, fiddler with Habadekuk.
Pianist Theis Langlands says: “Another idea was to play for a wider audience, confronting them with Danish folk music with more power than they are used to.
“This music was originally made for dancing.”
With powerful horns, toe-tapping fiddles and contagious rhythms, the leading Danish folk band offers a vibrant mix of folk, salsa and big band jazz, catapulting traditional folk into the 21st century.
"Inspiration for our arrangements often comes from other types of music,” says Kristian.
* Habadekuk will be at Otley Courthouse on Thursday, June 6 at 8pm. For tickets ring (01943) 467466.
