A reveller needed stitches to his face after a “glassing” incident in a Bingley pub.
The 20-year-old man was treated for serious facial injuries after the alleged assault at the Ferrands Arms in Queen Street. The incident happened at about 1.30am last Saturday.
Police in Bingley are investigating. A police spokesman said yesterday: “We are appealing for witnesses after a serious assault inside the pub.
“A 20-year-old man had been socialising in the pub when he was attacked, suffering serious facial injuries.”
Police confirmed they were treating it as a glassing.
“The victim suffered serious injuries, facial lacerations, believed to have been caused by a glass,” said the spokesman.
A 45-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and released on bail.
Pub manager Joanne, who did not want to give her surname, said the incident had happened very quickly and was dealt with by door staff.
She said: “It was just a normal evening. We close at 2am. We always have a lot of people in at that time and people were grouped together.
“It seemed to be a spur of the moment reaction. We don’t know what it was about. We are not aware of any history between those involved.
“The victim suffered a cut and went to hospital for stitches. He is from East Morton. He is a regular and is a decent chap.
“My husband offered him first aid, but the paramedics were there very quickly. Our doorman detained a suspect and the police arrived and arrested him.”
Joanne’s husband, who also did not want to be named, said the victim had been struck by a glass, but he insisted it was an isolated incident.
He said: “We’ve found ourselves having to deal with other people’s problems. On Saturday night there were four ambulances in and around our premises and not one had anything to do with us.”
Police want to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have information. They should contact Detective Constable Sue Anstess, of Airedale and North Bradford CID, on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
