Old exercise books unearthed at a Keighley school have given pupils a fascinating insight into lessons more than 60 years ago.

The eight books found during a clear-out at Oakbank date from the 1940s and ’50s.

They contain science and chemistry work by students of the day, when the school was Keighley Boys’ Grammar.

Oakbank now hopes to trace some of the “old boys” and invite them back to talk to current pupils.

“The exercise books contain masses and masses of detailed work – they clearly put in a huge amount of effort and the writing,” said Cheryl Moore, senior science technician at Oakbank.

“We are hoping some of those who owned the books will come forward if they’re still living around here.”

The work includes a typed thesis on rayon, produced in 1944 by FG Lambert. There is also a “Thesis of Water”, written in about 1946 by J Sharp, an essay by JD Horsman, a thesis on aluminium by G Neville, a thesis on tin plate by JS Maude, a thesis dated September 1955 by Peter Ambler, and an undated piece on sulphuric acid by JM Townson.
