A bogus solicitor in prison for setting up a sham legal practice in Bradford made £32,722 from his dishonesty, a judge ruled yesterday.
Former law student Khuram Ali, who posed as a qualified solicitor, was locked up for four years and eight months in May last year.
Yesterday, a Proceeds of Crime hearing was held at Bradford Crown Court when Ali was ordered to pay back £8,000 of his ill-gotten gains within six months or serve an extra four months behind bars.
Ali, 34, of Avenham Way, Pollard Park, Bradford, opened Manningham-based KSA Law Partners in 2005 and advised unsuspecting clients about immigration and insolvency matters, divorces and boundary disputes.
His dishonest activities continued for almost two years and he ignored a warning about his conduct from the Institute of Legal Executives.
Ali, a father of four, admitted being an unqualified person acting as a solicitor, perverting the course of justice, theft, fraud, forgery and obtaining property by deception.
