A minicab driver remained in hospital last night recovering from multiple fractures, two days after his vehicle was smashed into a derelict shop by a hit-and-run driver.
The man had to be cut free from the wreckage by firefighters after his dark-coloured Toyota Avensis minicab was hit by a white BMW 320.
The incident happened at the junction of Great Horton Road and Cross Lane, Great Horton, opposite the library, at 1.30am on Sunday.
After the collision, the occupants of the BMW abandoned the car and fled the scene on foot. Residents were woken by the sound of the impact and alerted emergency services.
Firefighters from Odsal cut off the roof of the Toyota to free the driver and he was taken to hospital.
Both vehicles were badly damaged. The road was closed for four hours while the cars were removed and the accident scene examined by experts.
Yesterday, a spokesman for the Bradford Roads Policing Unit said: “The adult male from the Toyota Avensis is currently detained in Bradford Royal Infirmary with multiple fractures. He is a local man.
“The occupants of the BMW have not been traced and we are still seeking them.
“We would urge anyone who knows them, or who witnessed the accident, to contact us.”
They should call the Roads Policing Unit via 101.
The minicab driver is understood to work for Lidget Green Taxis. A manager there declined to comment to the Telegraph & Argus yesterday.
A woman resident told how she was woken by the “thunderous sound” of the crash and the minicab hitting the boarded up shop. There was a tremendous bang, like an explosion,” she said.
