A year-long fundraising partnership to help older people around Otley has been completed with the presentation of a cheque for more than £6,000.
Staff at Sainsbury’s Otley teamed up with Otley Action for Older People, as its charity partner of the year, to raise the money by holding everything from lucky dips and tombolas to car washes and a sponsored walk.
Trustees, officers and members of the charity and representatives from the supermarket celebrated reaching a final total of £6,071 when they met to share a buffet at the Otley Core Resource Centre last Friday.
Town Mayor Councillor Pam Gill (Lab, Manor), a long-serving trustee of the charity, said: "I would like to thank Sainsbury's for nominating Otley Action for Older People as their charity for 2012 to 2013.
"Special thanks to Linda Guy - Sainsbury's Otley's charity co-ordinator - and the staff and customers for all their hard work to raise in excess of £6,000 over the past year.
"The money will go into our gardens account, now that funding has expired, so Craig Marshall can keep helping our client users keep their gardens tidy."
Sainsbury's Otley's store manager Paul Loughran, who also attended, said an announcement about its new charity partner for 2013-14, based on customer nominations, would be made soon.
