A sea of crimped hair, retro tee-shirts and fluorescent legwarmers and rara skirts by those faithful to the 1980s kicked off proceedings at the Bradford Bulls stadium.
No, it wasn’t a rugby match in fancy dress at Odsal, but the 80s Strikeback – The Ultimate Party on Saturday night.
And the Ultimate Party it was.
Sonia, Altered Images, Go West, The Fine Young Cannibals, Belinda Carlisle and Rick Astley were all on the bill for a nostalgia packed night.
Special mention to the Rewind Allstar Band, who provided the brilliant backdrop for each singer, despite their very different musical styles.
The tiny singer that is Sonia showed she still had the power to get fans on their feet with her hits such as Listen To Your Heart and Hopelessly Devoted. The sun was shining, the crowd in good spirits and the pitch absolutely packed with about 8,000 revellers.
Clare Grogan, of Altered Images, look barely a day older than she was in the 80s and got the crowd even more fired up, before the hugely talented Go West came on stage. They performed King Of Wishful Thinking, Call Me and We Close Our Eyes, but the crowd absolutely loved their take on Sex On Fire by the Kings of Leon.
Lead singer Peter Cox has a voice that transports you back to the good old days when crimpers ruled, shoulder pads were in, and everyone wanted to be Julia Roberts, with her happy ever after in Pretty Woman.
To see people in their 30s and 40s dancing in the stands, like they were back in a nightclub with disco balls and tiny dancefloors made me realise the 80s revival is such a success because it transports people back to the days when it seemed like party, party, party with so many fantastic bands.
Last but not least, the legend that is Rick Astley came on stage following a set by Belinda Carlisle. Despite the temperature drop, it was freezing, he successfully got the crowd going.
Special mention for when he serenaded Bradford South MP Gerry Sutcliffe, by singing Happy Birthday to him and encouraging thousands of others to do the same.
The crowd went wild for the singer, who delivered Together Forever and Cry For Help, among others.
But everyone was up on their feet for Never Going To Give You Up, and in my attempt to sing along, I still have a sore throat!
We were the very last to leave, as illustrated by our lone car in the carpark, but looking at the sea of plastic cups across the stadium, you couldn’t help but think, what a night.
