The Skipton branch of the Royal British Legion is planning a five-day visit to the 1914 Battlefields next summer to commemorate the start of the First World War.

Entitled All Quiet on the Western Front, the tour will visit the British battlefields where 250,000 British and Commonwealth soldiers died.

The visitors will see Sanctuary Wood and its preserved trenches, Tyne Cot Cemetery, the largest military cemetery in the world, and Messines Ridge with the Irish Peace Tower. There will also be a visit to Ypres to share in the Last Post Cemetery at the Menin Gate.

They will also visit the tunnels of Arras and trenches at Vimy Ridge.

The pilgrimage – which is open to everyone – is being organised by the Reverend David Wiseman on (01756) 797443.
